Robert Altenburg Obituary

Robert R. Altenburg, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. He was born on February 4, 1945.
 

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Peggy, whom he married on Valentine’s Day in 2001. Robert is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law; Phillip Garcia and his sister-in-law; Margaret Altenburg. Robert and Peggy’s marriage was a true partnership marked by deep devotion and affection.
 

Robert is survived by his stepsons, Thomas (Jodi) Lock and Daniel (Lorrie) Lock. He was a proud and loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Gail (Barry) Van Tiem and Stephanie Garcia, and his brother, John Altenburg, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
 

Robert was incredibly intelligent and hardworking, Robert spent his career building precision gauges for major companies, including Caterpillar. He possessed an extraordinary memory and could recall dates and events with remarkable detail. A lifelong learner, he had a special love for history and greatly enjoyed reading and watching historical documentaries.
 

Robert will be remembered for his sharp mind, strong work ethic, and the quiet warmth he brought to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Robert's Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 10:30AM (9:30AM-10:30AM gathering) at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan.
