His Legacy… Robert David Bettis, age 98, passed away March 22, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1927 at the family farm in McGregor, MI to Samuel and Beatrice (Campbell) Bettis. Bob married Janet Wolfe in 1949 in Detroit, MI. They moved to Redford Township in 1955, then in 1975 they moved to Howell, MI. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Bob was part of the American Legion Post 141. He was the oldest WWII veteran at Post 141 in Howell, MI. Bob took ownership of Bettis Insurance Agency in 1963. His legacy and the opportunities he gave to his family with the insurance agency continued even after retiring at the age of 62. He owned a cottage on Turtle Island in Lake St. Clair for 47 years where the family spent many weekends together boating and relaxing. In his spare time, he could be found tinkering, outside on his tractor, or boating on the lake. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for being very spirited and his ability to talk to anyone. Bob will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family… Bob leaves behind his children, Bill Bettis and Andrea (Dr. Jeffrey) Bruner; granddaughter, Kristen (Randy) Forth; and great grandchildren, Kinsley and Remington. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; and siblings, William and Geneva.
His Farewell… Bob’s family and friends will gather on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 4-8PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel. His Community Farewell will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 11AM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel with a gathering beginning at 10AM until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery in Howell, MI. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
