Robert Bowers

His Legacy… Robert “Bob” Jay Bowers, 86, passed away October 8, 2021. He was born on June 25, 1935, in Martin, Ohio to Lester and Emma (Truman) Bowers. Bob married the love of his life, Mary Jane Bennett, on July 30, 1955, in Hamburg, Michigan. He worked for many years at the University of Michigan in the Housing department as their head of maintenance. Concurrently, Bob held many other jobs, including working as a police officer for Livingston County. He helped to start Hamburg’s police department, and held badge #1, and eventually retired from Pinckney Police Department. Bob also worked as a fire fighter for the Hamburg Fire Department. Ever busy, you could find Bob working in the yard, around the house, or helping others. He did a lot for people in the community over the years. When he wasn’t working, Bob enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching storms, and nature, particularly bird watching. Bob and his wife were also members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. He loved to spend time with his family, and they often got together for Sunday dinner. Bob will be remembered as a loving, good, hard-working, man of faith. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. 

His Family… Bob will be missed by his wife, Mary Jane; his daughter, Pam (Bob) Jennings; daughter-in-law, Gail Bowers; sister, Betty Lemon; grandchildren, Mary-Lou, Bobbi, Maryanne, Eddie; great grandchildren, Logan, Evan, Gabby; friend of the family, Frank Havier; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Ed Bowers; his sister, Francis Clair; and his parents, Lester and Emma Bowers. 

His Farewell… Bob’s family and friends will gather 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Community Farewell will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 13, 202, at Borek Jennings Funeral Home.  Father Jim Pashturro will serve as celebrant.
