Robert MacGillis

His Legacy… Robert “Bob” Allen MacGillis, 84, passed away July 29, 2026.  He was born on March 18, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan to Angus MacGillis and Cecilia (Ignash). In 1966, Robert married the love of his life, Jean (Sutcliffe) MacGillis, from Pentwater, Michigan. He will be remembered as an honorable, hardworking, and humble man. Bob’s work ethic was strong, it shone when building his family home, learning throughout his career, and working in the soil. The garden provided great joy, pride, and exercises in patience. If he wasn’t in the garden, he might be off exploring the beauty of nature.

Those closest to Bob knew a side of him that many others never saw. Beneath the rugged exterior was a wonderfully mischievous sense of humor. He delighted in making up hilarious songs on the spot, often leaving the whole family laughing. He could be stubborn, fiercely independent, and tough as nails, but beneath it all was a thoughtful and deeply caring man.

Love, for Bob, was something you showed more often than you said. He will be remembered for that love most of all.

His Family… Bob will be missed by his wife, Jean; his children, Ian (Pam), Dave (Jennifer), Marie (Todd); brother, Paul; grandchildren, Paige, Garrett, Duke, Arthur, and Georgianna; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Angus and Cecilia, and his siblings, Jerome and Carol.

His Farewell… Bob’s family and friends will gather Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, Michigan. Gathering will be followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Father Gary Koenigsknecht will serve as celebrant.
