Rosemarie Lusk, age 82, passed away Friday, July 31 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on October 5, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to William Farkas and Mary Ann (Maggie) Beer. Rosemarie married Gerald (Jerry)Lusk, on December 10, 1953, in Muskegon, Michigan.
Rosemarie earned a nursing degree from Hackley School of Nursing in 1975. She spent her 37year career caring for others. Her career took her to various places, including Pine Island, Florida and Homer, Alaska. After receiving the devastating news of her cancer diagnosis, Rosemarie was determined to return to the profession she loved. After surgery in 2006, she did indeed return to nursing. In 2015, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, spreading to various parts of her body. She beat the odds and lived an additional 5 good years. She will be remembered as a loving, caring nurse. She touched so many lives.
Besides her career, she loved traveling, camping and fishing. Her and her husband spent many summers in Homer, Alaska. They would camp on the Alaska river banks, home to Sockeye salmon. She would usually out fished Jerry. She kept a journal of these trips, which turned into books she had written; Alaska: One More Time and The Alcan Highway and Alaska.
Rosemarie will be missed by her daughter, Carla Gzym (Stan); siblings, Shirley Wilkenson, Bill Farkas (Mary), Judy VanderArk and Beatrice Parton (Bill); grandchildren Jason Gzym (Rebecca), Kristine Harvard (Adam), and Jessica Kleen (Eric); great grandchildren Max and Piper Gzym, Patience and Felicity Harvard, and Aidan Machtemes; Special nieces, Brandee Tanner and Shawn Webber; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Egeler; and special friends Donna Martin and Marsha Moss. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents, Bill and Mary Ann Farkas, brother, Eugene Farkas, brother-in-law, Tom Lusk.
