Ruth Victoria Tomala

Her Legacy… Ruth Victoria Tomala, age 101, passed away August 12, 2022. She was born on April 8, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan to Riley Harris and Rose (Patnaude) Harris. Ruth married the love of her life, Henry Tomala, on October 25, 1941. She will be remembered as a humble, unassuming, and caring woman of faith who was born to serve others. She was a great listener whose face erupted with a smile just to be around her family. Ruth attended a Bible study and volunteered countless hours serving funeral meals and at many charitable events at her parish, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howell. She also enjoyed working with her husband at Henry’s Restaurant in Dearborn, an establishment they owned together. In her younger years, Ruth could be found swing dancing the night away at the Grandy Ballroom in Detroit with her friends. She loved art, visiting museums, reading, and learning all variety of new things.

Her Family… Ruth leaves behind her children, Tom (Linda) Tomala, Carrie (Paul) Warren, Rose (Bill) Niemeyer, and Dan (Louise) Tomala; sister, Bernice Sivick; grandchildren, Matthew, Bethany, Carolyn, Becky, Mary, Adrienne, and Danny; and great grandchildren, Ainsley, Alister, Maxwell, Brett, Kerstyn, Bethany, Bailey, and Savannah; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Riley Harris, and her grandson, Gabriel Niemeyer.

Her Farewell... Ruth's family and friends will gather at 10 am on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howell, Michigan. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Father Francis George will serve as Celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to Arbor Hospice.
