Hart, Shirley
Brighton, Michigan
Shirley Louise Hart, 93, passed away June 3, 2022 after a short illness, surrounded by family. She was born on August 17, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lynn and Emma Bunn. Her marriage to Douglas Hart in 1958 lasted until his death in 2010.
Shirley received a degree in medical technology in Boston; her final act was to donate her body to medical science. As a young woman, Shirley was an enthusiastic world traveler, enjoying adventures to Cuba, the Canary Islands, Europe, Mexico, Haiti and Jamaica. Her deep lifelong interest in antiques was expressed through active participation in the Questers and Antiquarians organizations. A gifted folk artist, she mastered heritage crafts including upholstery, sewing, rug braiding, Fabergé-style eggs, wood carving, quilting, caning, needlepoint and knitting, creating art that became cherished family heirlooms.
An avid reader, Shirley devoured books, especially politics and mysteries. Couples she and Doug met through square dancing became lifelong friends. Her grandchildren recall losing to their card-shark Nana, who always possessed “a pair of aces”. Her many friends remember her ravishing style, admiring her unique accessorizing skill and extensive necklace collection.
Her most important life role, however, was being Mom to her “three jewels”: her children David, Jennifer and Margaret.
She is survived by her children and their spouses (Maria, Jimmy and Suresh); her sister Janet; seven grandchildren (Noah, Zubin, Madeleine, Jasmine, Avi, Asha and Maya) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
Her Farewell… A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place at a date and location to be determined. Please leave a message of comfort for Shirley’s family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign her guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.
