Shirley Kempf Obituary

Kempf, Shirley

Dexter, Michigan

Her Legacy… Shirley Kempf, 73, of Dexter, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Born on September 13, 1952, in Asheville, North Carolina, Shirley lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Shirley had a long and fulfilling career in cosmetology. Her clients adored her so much that even after leaving the salon, she continued to provide her services from home. Later in life, she worked at McDonald’s, where she cherished the connections she made with her regulars during lunchtime. Her ability to form meaningful relationships was a testament to her kind and caring nature.

Shirley had an extraordinary ability to bring people together. Her home was always open to family and friends—no phone call or invitation needed. She found joy in cooking for others and creating warm memories around the table. Her genuine soul shone through in every interaction; she always wanted the best for those she cared about.  She enjoyed the simple moments with family and never took them for granted, for instance; when her son Robert and daughter-in-law Stephanie would come over just to watch TV, or her brother Gary making the trip from Ohio to just visit around the picnic table.

Shirley’s vibrant personality extended beyond her family life. She loved being part of communities that brought people together. Every summer, she looked forward to attending W4 Country Idol events, where she made lasting friendships and shared countless laughs. Online, she connected with others through her Twitch community while playing marbles—a hobby that brought her joy and camaraderie.

Her laughter was infectious, her smile radiant, and her presence uplifting. Shirley had a remarkable gift for making others feel valued and loved. Whether spending time with family or engaging with friends near and far, she left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

Shirley’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and connection. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing and inspire them to carry forward the warmth and generosity she embodied so beautifully.

Her Family… Family was the cornerstone of Shirley’s life. She was a devoted mother to her children: Robert Kempf Jr. (and his wife Stephanie Kempf), Elaina Kempf (and her husband Brian Toole Sr.), and Jamie Burke. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Brian Toole Jr. and Mahon Toole. Shirley is also survived by her brother Gary Fisher (and his companion Kim). She was predeceased by her parents, Rosa and John Fisher, and her brother Ronnie Fisher. Despite having family spread across different states, Shirley made it a priority to stay connected with everyone she loved.
