Stanley James Lockwood, age 90, of Fowlerville, MI passed away on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing Michigan. He was born on July 23rd, 1934 in Fowlerville Michigan. He was the son of the late J.D. and Zella Lockwood, also of Fowlerville, MI. Stanley was a lifelong resident of Fowlerville, Graduating from Fowlerville High School in the class of 1953. He played baseball in school where he met his future wife Joyce Harmon (Lockwood). Together Stanley and Joyce built a successful business and family. As owner of Lockwood Insurance Agency, located on the main four corners of Fowlerville until they sold the agency and retired in 2001, Stanley had a unique vantage point to observe all the daily activities of the community he so loved. Everyone, customer or not, was always welcome to stop in and visit. Stanley’s easy-going, welcoming demeanor was a blessing to all who knew him. Stanley had a zest for life and lived it well, into his 80’she could be found camping with family in Ludington, playing softball and golfing on the Fowlerville Men’s League with his life-long friends and teammates Lou Judd, Humpy (Harold) Almendinger, Wayne Copeland and John Smith. Stanley even went water skiing at the age of 80. Stanley was a lifelong member of the Fowlerville Rotary Club and the Fowlerville Masonic Lodge. He could be counted on to get on the floor and play with the grandchildren and great grandchildren right up until a month before his passing. Stanley is survived by his wife Joyce of 70 years, and his children Susan (Phil) Hassenzahl, James Lockwood, Scott (Lisa) Lockwood and Jill (Michael) Cole. He was deeply loved by his grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Hassenzahl, Tabitha McCready, Tera Schnatter and Gregory Lockwood, Stephanie Lockwood, Jonathon and Jared Lockwood, Caitlin Cole and Chelsea McKay. Stanley treasured his 22 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents J.D. and Zella Lockwood, his siblings Helen Flucks, Eva Beckman, Ileta Hammond, Harold Lockwood, Clarence Lockwood, Vida Curtis, Donald Lockwood, Ruthann Johnson and his son Steven Lockwood. Stanley had a large loving family and was blessed with too many nieces, nephews and cousins to list. In Lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) Michigan, a worldwide volunteer optometry organization providing vision care worldwide to the less fortunate. Stanley helped prepare eyeglass and participated on many trips with VOSH. Contributions can be sent to VOSH Michigan C/O Jill Cole 13438 Fawn Ct., Cedar Springs, MI 49319. A celebration of life will be held at the Howell Eagles Club located at 141 Schroeder Park Dr., Howell, MI on Saturday, March 29th beginning at noon with a service at 1:00 and lunch to follow.
