His Legacy…Stephen Joseph Earl, 79, passed away October 9, 2025. He was born on January 31, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan to James Earl and Phyllis (Wenzl) Earl. He was the second oldest of eight children and was very proud of his large family; he loved to share stories of his childhood. Stephen married his best friend and love of his life, Susan Horrigan, on October 1, 1976, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan; they enjoyed 49 beautiful years of marriage. Stephen proudly spent three years in Germany serving his country in the Air Force. He was a wonderful, kind, determined and loving person. Stephen had many health issues over the years and no matter the problems life gave him, he accepted it and went forward with a smile. He enjoyed small building projects around the house and maintaining his lawn. Stephen loved boating on his pontoon on the Portage Chain of Lakes, sports and vacationing in Traverse City. He was a family man, deeply loved his 2 children, their spouses and all his grandchildren, as well as their accomplishments. Stephen always looked forward to the Annual Earl Family golf outing which he organized for many years. He loved holiday gatherings, Miller Lite, his daily Cheerios and bologna sandwiches, ice cream and cheesecake. Stephen was a joy to know and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
His Family… Stephen will be missed by his wife, Susan Earl; his children, Jessica (Alan) Taylor, Stephen (Stacey) Earl; siblings, Jackie Vachow, Mike (Denise) Earl, Bob (Yolanda) Earl; grandchildren, Jordyn Taylor, Lindsay Taylor, Andrew Earl, Matthew Charest, Courtney Seale; sisters-in-law, Ginny Earl, Debbie Earl and Ann Earl. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllis Earl; sister, Kris DePaulis; brothers, Jim Earl, David Earl, Bill Earl; and brother-in-law, Jon Vachow.
His Farewell… Stephen’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 3:00PM-6:00PM (5:30PM Rosary), at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Hamburg, Michigan. His Community Farewell will follow at 6:00PM. Deacon Dave Piggot will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
