Her Legacy… Susan Gail Bennett, 75, passed away August 22, 2023. She was born on July 14, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan to William Harcourt and Mary (Giddens) Harcourt. Sue met Larry Bennett at an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and they were married on September 18, 1970, in Detroit, Michigan. Sue was a nurse and also a licensed social worker. She was an avid learner, always wanting to learn how to improve things in her field. Sue served in the Peace Corps with Larry in Afghanistan, she was very invested in serving other people. She was a fighter, very strong willed and independent. Sue instilled a love of travel in her children, taking them to Israel, Haiti, China, South Africa and Europe, just to name a few. Her children’s education was very important to her and she wanted them to see the world. She was always involved in her children’s activities; this included being a den leader for the Cub Scouts. Sue served as an elder at her church and sang in the choir. She also was involved in the Wednesday night meal services and Christmas pageants. She was an advocate for women’s education. Sue was chairman of the board for Victims of Pan-Am Flight 103 and was instrumental in getting a Pan-Am memorial in Arlington Cemetery. Sue also collected dolls and clocks and often brought them home from her many trips. She enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful cook. Sue loved to entertain and loved to host her yearly Christmas party. Sue lived a full, beautiful life and brought joy to many.
Her Family… Sue will be missed by her children, Jim (Rachel) Bennett, Andy (Sarah) Bennett, Dave (Brandy) Bennett; sister, Diane (Les) Kimball; 6 granddaughters; brother-in-laws, Bill (Sandy) Bennett, Randy (Sue) Bennett; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Bennett; parents, William and Mary Harcourt; and sister, Donna Shuh.
Her Farewell… Sue’s family and friends will gather Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 4PM-8PM, at Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, Brighton, Michigan. Her Community Farewell will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 11:00AM (10AM gathering), at Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, Brighton, Michigan. Pastor Rob Wagner will serve as celebrant.
