His Legacy… Ted Lyle Karns, age 82, passed away December 29, 2022. He was born on September 8, 1940, in Harrisburg, Illinois to Byford Karns and Mary (Wheeler) Karns. In 1959 he graduated from Ypsilanti High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and football. Ted joined the U.S. Navy after his graduation and was stationed in Sicily until his honorable discharge in 1961. He then married the love of his life, Helen (Wallman), on June 20, 1964 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and they settled in Pinckney, Michigan. Ted joined the Local 190 in Ann Arbor, where he had just celebrated the 60th Anniversary of his membership. He spent 15 years working for the U of M Plumbing Department before retiring on September 20, 2001. He and Helen were long-time members of Shalom Lutheran Church. Ted enjoyed living on the water and going boating and swimming with his family. He also enjoyed camping all over Michigan and its neighboring states, and thought nothing was better than spending an evening around the campfire with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
His Family… Ted will be missed by his wife, Helen; his children, Terry (Tina) Karns, David (Kelly) Karns, and Tim (Amy) Karns; sister, Sue Finkbeiner of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Joe, Nathan, Danny, Taylor, Kennedy, Nick, and Logan; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Byford and Mary Karns.
His Farewell… Ted’s family and friends will gather on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Shalom Lutheran Church, Pinckney, Michigan from 9:00am until the time of service at 10:30am. Pastor Dan Quagliata will serve as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Shalom Lutheran Church or to Arbor Hospice.
