Diskin, Thomas Francis
Brighton, Michigan
Thomas Francis Diskin, age 92, passed peacefully into eternal life on March 1, 2021 in the comfort of 4 generations of his loving family. He was born in Detroit on January 29, 1929, the third of six children born to Patrick M. Diskin and Margaret (Collins) Diskin. As a child of Irish immigrants, he was a true Irishman, through and through. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor (Terry) Licht and preceded in death by his parents and his siblings – Patrick Diskin, Marie Katros, Charles Diskin, and Harold Diskin.
Tom married the apple of his eye, Patricia Ann (Navarre) Diskin on October 10, 1953, and together they built a life they both loved through 67 years of marriage. His delight was his family, and their love lives on through their 6 children – Karen (Bruce) Buddenborg, Michael Diskin, Jan Diskin, Lynda (Bill) Winiarski, Ann (Ray) Bischoff, Susan Braschwitz; 16 grandchildren – the late Eric Buddenborg, Katie (Shaun) DeNooyer, Thomas Buddenborg, Nathan (Lilia) Diskin, Tyler Diskin, Alex Diskin, Rebecca Diskin, Kelsey Winiarski, Danielle Winiarski, Mary (Seth) Cosier, Renee (James) Wesley, Andrew Bischoff, Daniel Bischoff, Thomas Braschwitz, Anna Braschwitz, and Joe Braschwitz; 2 great grandchildren – Natalie Diskin and Frida DeNooyer, and 3 more greats on the way.
After attending Ford Trade School, Tom had a long and fulfilling career in design and management at Ford Motor Company. He served his country for 9 years in the Army National Guard. As a devout and life-long Catholic, he remained active in his church, serving in various capacities in the Knights of Columbus, mentoring young men through Catholic Big Brothers, assisting special needs children through the Order of the Alhambra, helping found a chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Hamburg, and organizing retreats at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat House.
For all the lives he touched, one would have thought he had a thousand hands. His profound and positive imprint on this world is one of humble service and great love. He will be missed by many, but we are comforted to know he is heading home.
