His Legacy… Thomas Robert Dorsey, 93, passed away January 22, 2024. He was born on July 9, 1930, in Royal Oak, Michigan to Frank Dorsey and Angie Vanetti. Thomas graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1948. He played baseball throughout high school and later joined the Detroit Tigers as a catcher. He stayed with the tigers until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 where he served in Germany and played ball for the Army. After service to his country, Thomas came home and started training and breeding horses. He worked his way into becoming the General Manager for DRC in Livonia and Racing Commissioner for the State of Michigan. He also ran the largest thoroughbred breeding farm in the state of Michigan. Thomas married the love of his life, Sandra Lewis, on May 8, 1982 in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He will be remembered as a man that deeply loved his family and told stories with perfect timing. He had a great love and respect for the outdoors spending time hunting, fishing and planting trees. He had a great moral compass and was greatly loved and respected by all those around him. Many confided in Thomas for counsel as they valued his perspective on life. He was always willing to help family and friends.
His Family… Thomas will be greatly missed by his wife, Sandra Dorsey; his children, Thomas (Susan) Dorsey, Linda (Brett) Spivey; daughter in law, Mamie Dorsey; four granddaughters, one grandson; six great grandsons and one, great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sons, Mark Dorsey, Daniel Dorsey; parents, Frank and Angie Dorsey; daughter-in-law, Kelly Dorsey.
