Timothy Leland Lelito Timothy Leland Lelito, age 80, passed away on July 22, 2025, in Duluth, Minnesota, at the close of a final, spirited cross-country journey that began in Oklahoma and wound through Santa Fe, Yellowstone, Little Bighorn, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan—reflecting his deep love for the land, adventure, and quiet moments of reflection. Tim was born on July 6, 1945, in Center Line, Michigan, to Carlos Lelito and Helen Konzcal. The second of four siblings—Gary, Antoinette and Cynthia—Tim grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and a heart full of loyalty and determination. He proudly served his country as a Corporal E4 in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he worked as a tractor vehicle mechanic and tank retriever. His service shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of honor and perseverance that remained with him throughout his life. After returning home, Tim built a life rooted in family, hard work, and his love of horses. Early in his career, he managed Finley Riding Stables in Shelby Township, where his connection with animals and people flourished. He later transitioned to training thoroughbred racehorses, which became his life’s passion. One of his proudest achievements was earning the deep respect of his peers—becoming known as one of the most trusted and well-regarded trainers at the racetrack. On February 20, 1971, Tim married the love of his life, Ardis Nowicki. Together, they raised two daughters, Helen and Amy, and created a home filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Tim was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren—Timothy, Jeffrey, William, Nalesia, Megan, Adriano, and Larenzo—and a proud great-grandfather to Josephine and Iliza. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Helen, his beloved wife Ardis, and his daughter Helen. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep loyalty, and unwavering love for his family. Tim’s final journey—spanning the landscapes he cherished—was a fitting close to a life well lived: grounded in purpose, shaped by service, and enriched by the love of those who knew him. He was a cowboy through and through, and he went out with his boots on. A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Saint Agnes Church in Fowlerville, Michigan. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM.
