Virginia Dunning Obituary

Virginia Dunning, 88, passed away December 4, 2025. She was born on November 25, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jozef Sekowski and Mary Elenora Zebrowski. With heavy hearts, we remember a woman whose strength, faith, heritage, and deep love for her family left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.

From a young age, Virginia was known for her quiet strength and kind heart. In her high school yearbook, she was described as “quiet, always lending a helping hand,” that had a pet peeve of history, with curly blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. Those same gentle, thoughtful qualities followed her throughout her life. Virginia lived her life with a rare blend of feistiness and tenderness. She was deeply devoted to her family and proudly carried her most cherished roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Rooted in her Polish heritage, she carried forward the values of perseverance, faith, loyalty, and family unity. Holidays and family gatherings were never ordinary in her presence. They were adventures filled with laughter, stories, and moments that became lifelong memories.

Virginia married Wayne Dunning on December 18, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan. She shared a lifelong partnership with her husband built on loyalty, devotion, and deep companionship. Virginia often spoke of reuniting with him one day, a hope that brought her comfort and peace. Their bond was best reflected in the words they lived by, “Me & you, You & Me". A love so steady and sincere that it never needed grand descriptions. In the photographs they left behind, their love still shines brightly, just as it always did. “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it.” Song of Songs 8:7

Virginia’s Catholic faith guided every chapter of her life. She lived her faith not only in prayer but through service, volunteering with hospice to offer comfort, presence, and compassion to others in their final days. In her later years at the assisted living facility, her faith remained just as central to who she was. While she preferred few visitors, she always welcomed conversations about religion. She became well known and well loved there, admired for her honesty, strength, and unmistakable presence. She loved fiercely, spoke her mind, and protected those she cared about with unwavering loyalty. Her feisty spirit never overshadowed her tenderness. It simply made her love even stronger.

Virginia will be missed by her children, David, Steven (Kerri), and Carolann (Tony); her grandchildren, Theresa, Trisha, David Jr., Brian, Stephanie, Brett, Alexis, and Winter; her great-grandchildren, Lilly, Braxton, Ryan, Maxine, Tristan, Rocco, Emmitt, Emil, Emrik, Myrna, David III, and Juliana; and other loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Dunning. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the traditions she created, the faith she carried, and the countless lives she touched through kindness and service. “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” John 11:25

Though she is no longer with us in body, Virginia’s spirit now rests in the reunion she longed for, and her presence will always remain wherever family gathers, faith is spoken, and love is shared. Always “me and you, you & me".
