His Legacy… Wayne Sheldon Hartman, 80, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026. He was born on July 7, 1945, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Gale Sheldon Hartman and Pearl (Hafley) Hartman. Wayne grew up in Ann Arbor, graduating from Pioneer High School in 1963.
Wayne was a Veteran of the United States Navy and faithfully served during the Vietnam War from 1965 – 1969. At the end of his active service, Wayne returned to Ann Arbor where he began a 37-year career as an HVAC Technician at the University of Michigan, retiring in 2007.
It was while working at U-M that Wayne met the love of his life, Elaine Arbour, at the Michigan League. After a short courtship, Wayne and Elaine began 43 wonderful years of marriage on June 4, 1976 in Dexter, Michigan.
Wayne had a passion for woodworking and automotive work, and could usually be found in his barn working on a project. His most ambitious automotive project was building a 1934 Ford Roadster.
Wayne also found great joy in a good joke and enjoyed sharing them with others.
His Family… Wayne will be missed by his children, Bryan (Andrea) and Kevin (Leslie); his grandchildren Natalie and Evan; and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Elaine.
