Stevens, Wayne
South Lyon, MI
His Legacy…Wayne William Stevens, 80, passed away on November 25, 2025. He was born on September 30, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan to Daniel Stevens and Naomi (Orr) Stevens. Wayne married the love of his life, Rose Gordenier, on April 20, 1985, in Dexter, Michigan. Wayne will be remembered as someone who cared deeply for his family and had a natural warmth with kids. Teaching came naturally to him, and for 27 years he shared his love of learning with students at Belleville High School, and another 3 years at the Livingston Technical Academy. Whether it was a classroom lesson, a school field trip, or a band trip, Wayne was always there. Wayne was happy to be part of his family’s and students’ world. Math was more than a subject to Wayne; it was a joy. Outside the classroom, he spent countless hours tutoring, both privately and publicly, always patient, always encouraging. And when he wasn’t teaching someone else to love math, he could often be found with a Sudoku puzzle in hand, enjoying the quiet challenge. Wayne also found peace in simple things, especially fishing. Wayne will be remembered for his steady presence, his dad jokes, and the way he gave his time so generously to others. Wayne leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and the many students whose lives he touched just by being exactly who he was.
His Family… Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife, Rose Stevens; his children, Sam Stevens, Lindsey (Brett) Hakala, and Eric; grandchildren, Sam Hakala, Gwen Hakala, Cohen Stevens; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Naomi Stevens; his son, Matthew Stevens; and his sister Sandy.
