Wilfred (Bud) Walz Obituary

His Legacy… Wilfred (Bud) George Walz, 91, passed away on May 05, 2025.  He was born on April 27, 1934, in Pierz, Minnesota, to Edward and Gertrude (Schueller) Walz. Bud married the love of his life, Phyllis Pierzinski, on June 11, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan. Bud will be remembered as a devoted husband, a caring father and grandfather, and a man with a clever wit and playful spirit. He grew up on a farm in Minnesota as one of 13 children. As a boy, he was athletic and tough, becoming a Golden Gloves boxer in high school before serving in the U.S. Navy for four years.

After his time in the Navy, Bud ran a livestock transportation business and later worked for General Motors for 25 years. He was a true outdoorsman; he loved hunting and traveled far and wide for deer, bear, turkey, elk, buffalo, and mule deer. He also found joy in gardening and fishing the Great Lakes.

Bud never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and often became fast friends with those he met. Most of all, he loved his family—they were his greatest pride and joy. Bud was cherished by his family and friends and will be forever missed.

His Family… Bud will be missed by his loving wife, Phyllis Walz; his children, Cheryl (Rollie) Rowse, Kathy (John) Hodge, Kevin (Elaine) Walz, Jeffrey (Peggy) Walz, and Brenda (Mike) Johnson; siblings, Marie Herold; grandchildren, Kyle (Michelle), Aaron, Sarah (Eric), Christopher (Vani), Austin (Emily), Wesley (Becca), Madison (Matt), Owen; great-grandchildren, Ava, Olivia, Roan, Norah; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Gertrude Walz; his son, Randy Walz; eight brothers; and three sisters.

His Farewell… Bud’s family and friends will gather Thursday, May 08, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM (Rosary at 7 PM) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 09, 2025, at 11:00 AM (Gathering starts at 10:00 AM) at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan.
